Leaving Donald

On the road to Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. Thinking much about borders these days. My piece "Walls & Us" aired on NPR's All Things Considered a couple of weeks ago.

Austin Healey Sprite

from Michael Moore in Northern California: "Despite the near-constant rain, this showed up downtown [Benicia]"

1949 Pontiac Streamliner

It's great looking car. I want it, but at a price where I wouldn't have to treat it as a trailer queen. Cars kept like perfect jewels, rolled from collector to collector, get kinda...boring. Want to see these babies out on the road. This unit would be a great beach wagon. It's on the block at BAT.

The Cambridge Land Rover

It always heartens me to see this nimble machine on the streets of automotively tedious Cambridge, Massachusetts, which are otherwise lined with silver Priae, etc.

Live Free or/and Die

from the poet David Rivard, on the road (I-95) to New Hampshire.
I often feel as though I’ve entered
a standoff between what
happens around me & what’s
going on inside—& this life
that goes on & on inside my head
goes on & on & on it seems
almost without me, as
it has since childhood . . .

'73 Dodge Power Wagon

You have seen this truck before. I like it a lot. The morning I shot these, Cambridge was skimmed with black ice. Thirty-car pile-ups all over Boston. HBB and I slid our way to school on foot, then I continued slipping and sliding down to Harvard Square, pushing my bike, which was impossible to ride. By afternoon it was almost 60 degrees, and they are calling for 12 inches of snow tomorrow. Tht means a snow day, sigh.
The truck has a clean, plainjane ruggedness I admire. 4wd, like any Power Wagon. Not sure the year but I'm putting down '73, which is probably close.

1973 Riviera

My college girlfriend's father had one of these. We would commandeer it when he was out of town. I didn't have a license, mais ca ne fait rien,  & I remember cruising backroads (les rangs) in the Laurentians at the wheel of the Riv.
