Peter Behrens House, Darmstadt

Patrick Drotos,  a classmate at Notre Dame de Sion (kindergarden), St Kevin's School (elementary) and Lower Canada College (prep school) lives in Darmstadt, Germany. He forwarded these pictures of the Peter Behrens house at Darmstadt. PB was the great modernist, a pioneer of industrial design and modern architecture. I believe that Walter Gropius and Mies van de Rohe were among his students.

"My house is not this old, and not this posh. But it did survive WWII, with a reinforced ferrosteel bombshelter and gas tight steel doors worthy of a U-Boot. That is where I keep my wine. No chance of breakage down there."--PD

  1. Neato! Your family history sort of reminds me of a novel I'm reading, (written by a marvelous author), about a family that goes by the name of the O'Brien's.... haha
