The Last Picture Show

http://theselvedgeyard.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/the-last-picture-show-epic-feast-of-dust-denim-desire-dreams/   I'm not sure The Last Picture Show (dir. Peter Bogdanovish, 1971) is "an epic feat of dust, denim and dreams" as the link above would have it, but it is a startling thrill of a movie,  straight from the heart of the golden age of American filmmaking, roughly 1965-75.  American loneliness in the American landscape...every time I see The Last Picture Show I want to read John Brinckerhoff Jackson's essays on landscape  http://www.brinckerhoff.org/JBJsite/index.html  and Larry Levis' poems  http://www.poemhunter.com/larry-levis/  all over again.
